Why every bride needs to give herself 8 months...

Eight months for what, you ask? You need to have your dress ordered 8 months before your wedding.

8 months might sound like a looooong time to some of you but it is actually the minimum of what we recommend to our brides! We are primarily a special order store so when you order a gown, it is not typically in production at the designer yet. At Amour Bridal, all of our beaded gowns are hand-beaded, for example – that takes a long time to do! If a dress is not already in stock, it takes 4-6 months to come in.

So why the 8 month number?

You also have alterations to consider! 99% of brides need alterations of some sort and we recommend that you allow 2 - 3 months for that process. If you are not doing bridal portraits then you have a bit more time. The most important thing is that you are not rushing around at last minute trying to make sure your dress is perfect. There will be lots of little things that pop up in the weeks leading up to the big day and you don’t want something as major as your wedding gown to be one of them!

So your wedding is coming up in a few months - what to do?

Not to worry! Although we highly recommend at least 8 months there are still plenty of options if you have a tighter time frame. We often sell our sample gowns off the rack and we do have some designers that keep some gowns in stock. Just keep in mind the shorter time frame the fewer options we have.

You've probably been dreaming about your wedding for months, even years, and the moment has finally come...your significant other proposed and you said YES! Now it's time to start wedding planning!

Many new brides are unsure of wha to expect, this is new territory after all. Once you have your wedding venue and date set, it's time to start thinking about your wedding dress. Here are our top tips for shopping for your wedding dress to make the most out of your experience.

Schedule an appointment

At one of our scheduled bridal appointments, you will get a personal Bridal Consultant that can help you find your dream dress!

Give yourself time

The rumors are true! Designer bridal gowns do take about 4-6 months to arrive once ordered so make sure that you are not leaving it to the last minute.

Set a budget

Make sure that you know how much you are comfortable spending because you don’t want to fall in love with a gown that you can’t afford! We always work to be respectful of your budget because it is about finding the dress that is the best for YOU and that includes the price tag. Don't forget to factor in additional costs such as alterations or shipping out of state.

Get to know your bridal style

Don’t be afraid to look in bridal magazines or browse Pinterest for dresses that you love. This will give you an idea of what you might be interested in! Be open minded - a lot of brides end up falling in love with something completely opposite of wha they originally envisioned!

Who to bring?

Anyone that is going to love and support you through the process. Valuing their opinion is a plus as well! Although we do always welcome larger parties, we recommend bringing 2 or 3 close friends or family members. Anything more than that can get overwhelming.

Don't over think it

We have a saying here, "Finding your wedding dress is like finding your fiance...when you find the one stop looking!" It is so easy to say you want to look at just one more store, but honestly, it gets overwhelming and it will take away from the feeling of finding "the one."

Shopping for your wedding dress is supposed to be fun so relax and enjoy it!
